Despica House Overview

Despica House was built in a couple of phases in a three different periods of history. The oldest part of the house dates from 17th century. The house belonged to the wealthy orthodox family named Despic, who have donated the house to the city of Sarajevo, together with another one object where museum of literal and theater art is located today.

Despica house is an important historical object due to the fact that the first theater plays in Sarajevo have taken place just in this house. That is why many scientist considers Despica house as a predecessor of modern theater.

By turning the house in to a museum, the city of Sarajevo got another historical object where visitors can see the living culture of rich Sarajevo family, represented by Despica family.

Opening hours are as follows:

- 15th April to 15th October (Monday - Friday: 10 am - 6 pm; Saturday: 10 am - 3 pm; Sunday: closed).

- 15th October to 15th April (Monday - Friday: 10 am - 4 pm; Saturday: 10 am - 3 pm; Sunday: closed).

This house is the perfect example of the cultural mix you can find in Bosnia. European and Othoman styles get together with a great result in Despica house. I loved every minute in that house and the Curator is a very smart and nice woman.
