Banja Luka or Banjaluka is the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina after Sarajevo and the administrative capital and the largest city of the entity Republika of Srpska. The name \"Banja Luka\" was first mentioned in a document dated February 06, 1494, but Banja Luka\'s history dates back to ancient times The area of Banjaluka covers 1239 sq. kilometers, has population of 250.000 - 300.000. Banjaluka spreads over both banks of the Vrbas River. If you want to see Banjaluka clearly, you need to climb on the hill called Banj brdo. That is the only spot from which you can see not only the town, but its surroundings too. In the town itself, you can distinguish its streets, nice and big houses and buildings. Divided into two halves by the fast and green river Vrbas, Banjaluka is spread mainly on the southern side of the Banjaluka plain. Banjaluka is also well known by the nickname "the green town" because of its beautiful avenues, alleys and parks and this town has over 2400 acres of green areas out of which 1000 acres are located through the town. Before entering Banjaluka, the river Vrbas is passing through the nature's masterpiece, the Canyon of Vrbas. In the Vrbas River and other Banjaluka rivers swimming and fishing is possible. There are many hunting areas near the town, so you can see a lot of hunters and fishermen in the area.

In the heart of present Banja Luka, there is cultural-historical monument-fortress Kastel. The area of Banja Luka was wholly in the Roman province of Illyricum, lying on important Roman roads between Dalmatia and Pannonia.It was Roman military fortress Castra (Kastel) inside which Roman soldiers lived. After ruin of Roman empire, Sloven tribes populated this territory during VI and VII century A.C. During middle ages period many fortresses were built along the Vrbas banks.

Banja Luka is a city of youth. It is a university city which currently hosts about 15,000 students, as well as 12,000 high school students.

City streets are lined with hundreds of café/bars, some with live music, others with DJ’s, rock music, as well as local folk music, which are open till late every night.
